The interior of this Claremont home is a gorgeous mix of black & white classic modern. The outside.. Not so much (see BEFORE PICS below). Warm tones of red brick and limestone, along with little shade, was proving to provide unrest, making the garden a place they would rather avoid. We wanted to draw on the calming influence of the interior palette and bring it outside, to ultimately create a united home and garden space.
An alfresco with a cement dado bulkhead hides the existing eaves and Scyon cladding disguises all of the red toned face brick. A vergola insert allows for the northern light to shine through. Black steel sliding & pivot doors provide ease of access, while complementing the existing white timber framed windows. A fireplace has been designed to be viewed from the house, as well as enjoyed in the alfresco.
The existing limestone pavements have been replaced with bluestone. This small change also brings out the grey in the existing concrete, allowing it to stay. An arbor of deciduous trees creates a canopy of summer shade for outdoor eating and entertaining under the stars.
The grey purple walls in the pool area are rendered with cement dado and a white timber arbor & built in concrete seat is added for poolside lounging.
